My Dad and I saw this a couple of days ago and I would have written about it earlier if it weren’t for the poor conditions of the theater sending me off on a Facebook tangent.
Nevertheless, The movie was enjoyable. I never read the book series, so i didn’t really have a sense of what to expect going in – only that it was the precursor to the Lord of the Rings series.
The story follows Bilbo Baggins, a reluctant hobbit of no particular importance, on a journey with a group of Dwarves to take back a homeland they lost a period of time ago.
The movie, which is the first of three in the hobbit series, was entertaining in the moment but forgetful as i write about it only four days later. It was shot well and was quite funny, but it really hasn’t had a lasting impact on me. I’m trying to figure out why that is. Maybe because the movie is a one of three and the ending didn’t really leave me clamoring to learn more.
I think what made the LOTR series so entertaining is they had to get the ring destroyed. It was the constant throughout the three movies. At the end of Hobbit 1, they get to the place they needed to get to. There are some things that are left untied, but you don’t see there being much more to get into for a second movie, nevertheless a third.
Bottom line: It’s a fun way to kill just under three hours. B+ (If i had to give it a rating).
